...modern guest room...

When my husband and I bought our first home last June, I began our guest room transformation with a budget of no more than $500 to do a complete overhaul from kid friendly, to chic simplicity.  I wanted this room to be soothing, inviting, and a touch more feminine than other rooms in my house....xoxo Mrs.O

My inspiration board:
Apothecary jars, Yellow garden stool, purple vase, baroque couch, grey throw pillows, subway art, ZGallerie rhinestone frame, Pottery Barn Madison bedding, black wrought iron bed, west elm faux fur blanket, borghese mirrored side table

To create:

Pottery Barn Madison Bedding & Collection, 2009

DIRT CHEAP

Who doesn’t like bargain prices on outstanding home décor?

Recently there has been a fabulous trend in the industry of using salvaged materials like wine crates and pallets- and literally turning them into stunning furniture!  The best news: you don’t have to go to Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware to get the look ; )

Get this look in your home for dirt cheap:

Wine boxes
What:  I've been personally using these in my home for years and find SO many uses-End tables, magazine caddies (adding wheels to bottom), closet bins, serving trays, wine storage, flooring!
Where:  Best place to go are the wine stores, even Costco (usually they will give them to you for free, or will cost just a few dollars at stores like Total Wine & More)

Pallets

What: Coffee tables, headboards; mounted wine bottle storage, furniture (add a $9 cushion from Target!)
Where: Supermarkets (make sure you talk to the manager first as simply taking them from the back parking lot is frowned upon), Costco, literally any place that receives shipments in bulk- usually they are happy to give them away for free!

Here are some of my all-time favorite inspiration photos using these ideas, and a little surprise of my own at the end! xoxo

(Witnessed actual wine crate flooring in a model home before, absolutely stunning!!)

And in my own home, an old Dom Perignon crate simply turned sideways that I use in my living room as a side table  : )

...november: guest rooms...‏

Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for holiday guests with cozy bedding and soothing accents- simple, yet affordable updates can go a long way to create a stylish, well-appointed guest room that give a sense of comfort hotels can't match! Some of my favorite ways to invite loved ones into my home is by providing plush throws, take-home slippers, plenty of champagne, and presenting a decor in rich colors and textures.  This month is all about Guest Rooms :)

Here are a few guests rooms (including some celebrity ones!) below I simply adore ….. Happy November!  Xoxo Mrs.O
